The Otters' ideas and efforts to help with pollution on the River Crouch have earned us a grant in the Volvo Eco Challenge. This project, which has been promoted by the Royal Yachting Association, is designed to make us think about the environment around us and how easy it is to spoil it.
As Otters, who are always on (or sometimes in) the river, we often see the rubbish that gets thrown in, so we suggested that we ought to take re-usable plastic bottles for our drinks whenever we go racing and sailing.
The Volvo Eco challenge liked our idea and have awarded us a grant of £740. We will spend this on providing all the Otters and our guests with re-usable bottles and expect everyone to bring them back ashore! We can also buy a 'bottle squasher' so that disposable plastic bottles can be easily re-cycled.
The Otters would like to thank the RYA and Volvo for sponsoring the challenge and helping us protect the local environment.
