GB Cadet World Championship Team

Katie and ScarlettThe British team enjoyed their last chance to practise at Graffham before heading out to Poland for the World Championships. The team has elected both a Helms' Captain (Oliver Paliarakis) and a Crews' Captain, our own Scarlet Anderson. Scarlett is top left and Katie is bottom right.

Otter Cadet Open Meeting 2010

Saturday 19th June 2010

Soon after the start...When scheduling an open meeting in June you expect to be hosting a beautiful, balmy sail on the Crouch. NOT TRUE. The 19th June was grey and blustery with black clouds building and passing through in big rainy squalls, with the wind shifting in as the rainstorms passed through and provided some very challenging conditions.

A Wonderful Otter Weekend!At the final indicator in Weymouth over the Bank Holiday Weekend, Katie Barr and Scarlett Anderson, sailing 8435 Blue Moon have qualified for the British team at the World Championships in Puc, Poland in July.

Laura reporting on the Cadet Inlands

Thursday 8th & Friday 9th April 2010

A small section of the fleetWith a forecast of light winds on the second day of racing, the Race Committee ran four races on the first day of the Inland Championships. With a fleet of 82 boats, everyone knew the competition would be fierce and the title of Inland Champion would be hard to achieve. The course of a triangle followed by two sausages (windward-leeward loops) was put into place and not long after the first race began.

Just after the StartThe week following Easter the Otter Cadet Squadron visited Rutland for two days training followed by the National Inland Championships, which were also an indicator for the British team to go to the World Championships in Puc, Poland at the end of July.

Cadets shaking out the Cobwebs

Comments from the coach...Several hardy Cadets, together with some visitors, braved the January weather for a day's training with Michael MacNamara, the UKNCCA national coach on the 17th of January. Suprisingly, conditions were near perfect, bright sunshine and a consistent 10 knot breeze allowed the participants the opportunity to shake out the cobwebs and work with some new crews.

Training for the Cadet Worlds

Otter boats 8538 and 8542 improve their skills with Adam, their coach.Since the final indicator we have been busy getting as ready as we possibly can for the World Championships. Three days' training in Weymouth, followed by a further two days in Weymouth, followed by Flanders (for some) followed by the final two days at Grafham on 12th/13th July. All this, alongside passing (!?) GCSE and other exams, has kept life very hectic.

Trying for the Cadet Worlds Team

Cadet World Team SquadThis report follows the preparation the Otters in the team have been doing to get ready for Medemblik. The results of the final indicator selected the top eight boats for the GBR team, the top seven to be entered as the team for the 'World Championships Regatta in Medemblic, Holland' and the 8th boat acting as reserve. Two Otter boats with William Kennedy & Loni Lillienthal and George Ayre & Nick Sutton qualified in the top seven team positions.

Cadet National Championships

28th July 2007

LogoPwllheli Sailing Club and the UK Cadet Class association hosted an excellent National Championship. Sunshine and light to moderate winds meant that all 12 scheduled races were completed. With over 150 entries, fleets were split into flights and racing took place in a round robin series with all flights taking turn to race the others.

Easter Egg Open-Cadet Report

31st March-1st April 2007

Saturday was an afternoon start with the wind speed at 18 knots gusting to 27, so everyone was in for a busy time, especially the Rescue RIBs. About 70 children competed in the Otter Easter Egg Regatta, a good turn-out.

A perfect Brass Monkey

Rarin' to go!The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the last race of the 2006 sailing season for the Otters. 17 Cadets and one Laser entered this annual pursuit race.

Otters at the Cadet Nationals

19th -25th August 2006

Tye Witchard in Viper6 Otters attended the 2006 Cadet National Championships in Weymouth from 19th to 25th August, armed with special Otter Nationals 'T' Shirts, and high expectations do well and achieve UKNCCA Squad & RYA Cadet National Junior Squad Places.

Lookers Volvo Otter Int Cadet Open Meeting

24 & 25 June 2006

A convincing winnerTwenty-six boats registered for the annual Cadet Open meeting held at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Burnham-on-Crouch. After a half hour delay to the launch due to lack of wind, the fleet was towed to the River Roach.

Cadets at the Parkstone Indicators

Apr-06

11 Cadet teams attended the Parkstone Indicator trials on the South Coast.This was the second selector event for the World Team 2006, and the first ranking event for selection for the National Squad 2006/7. Amy Seabright & Katie Barr had a superb event finishing 5th overall, placing them in strong contention for a team place with one further selector to sail.

Cadets at the Inland Championships

15th April 2006

Fourteen entered the Inland Championships at Rutland and, despite dubious weather forecasts, completed the scheduled races on the Saturday although the weather gained the upper hand on the Sunday! Oliver Herve & Charlie Barr ended 7th overall with Amy Seabright & Katie Barr in 8th. Silver Fleet was won by Charlie Matthews & William Arney with George Ayre & William Kennedy coming in 2nd. The coaches were all delighted to see great improvements.

Corinthian Otters Cadet Open Meeting

25th & 26th June 2005

The Corinthian Otters Cadet Open meeting consisted of 6 races over the two days, with a discard after 4. The weekend thunderstorms forecast earlier in the week had fortunately cleared by Friday night, leaving sunshine and a cool East North East breeze...
