Welcome to the website of the Corinthian Otters, founded in 1930 and arguably the first sailing club especially formed for children in the UK. Today's Otters continue the traditions of those early years; they sail, surf and swim over and under the waters of the Crouch in Optimists, Toppers, Cadets, Lasers and 420s.

Joint Clubs Optimist Open
12 and 13th July 2008
(Eastern Region Grand Prix)
Following the great success of last year’s regatta, this year we hope to break the 100 boat barrier making this one of the country’s premier Optimist national events. Entry details on the calendar section of the IOCA website at www.optimistsailing.org.uk.

Otters' Murder Mystery Party
Friday 18th April 2008
On Friday the 18th of April a group of eight actors and actresses travelled to the club to provide members with an evening of investigation. Split into teams of ten, each team had to play the role of detective for the evening to see who was causing the trouble at Rilloby Hall.

Optimist Start of Season
April 2008
Well, the time has come!! Our first year river group start sailing on this Saturday 12th April but on the pond for the first couple of weeks, which will act as a refresher following a winter of relaxing and forgetting!!! Your trainers, Duncan and Nick, are looking forward to seeing you at 09.30 sharp.

OTTER ACHIEVEMENTS 2007

2007 was a year of great performance and achievement for the Corinthian Otters; a gold medal in the 470 Women's Junior European Championships, first places for Cadet sailors in both the Inland and the National Championships, eight places in the team for the Cadet World Championships and the East Coast Champion in the Optimist Class were among the successes of a long and varied season.

Cadet National Championships
28th July 2007
Pwllheli Sailing Club and the UK Cadet Class association hosted an excellent National Championship. Sunshine and light to moderate winds meant that all 12 scheduled races were completed. With over 150 entries, fleets were split into flights and racing took place in a round robin series with all flights taking turn to race the others.

HCC Optimist East Coast Championships
14th &15th July 2007
Strong winds and rough conditions certainly gave the Otter Optimists a hard time over the weekend of the 14th & 15th July when they combined with the BSC to hold the East Coast Championships but they were not daunted and it was the Corinthians Otters' own Fleur Page who was the clear winner of the Main Fleet. The whole event was a credit to the organisers with 88 entrants from 17 clubs in the eastern area.

Promoting Youth Sailing

Once again the Otters put on a display at the Burnham on Crouch Primary School's Open Day joining various other national and local organisations such as the Police, a recycling company, St Peter's High School, Burnham Rugby Club and many others to promote local recreational sports and social clubs offering out of school activities

Cadet Open Meeting
23rd & 24th June 2007

The Otter Open Meeting consisted of five races, two on the Saturday and three on the Sunday. We all hoped for six but, because the wind suddenly dropped on the Saturday, we were only able to complete two races before we all drifted off down the river.

The AHOY Shipmates visit Burnham
2nd & 3rd June 2007
Last weekend ten children from the AHOY Sailing Centre in Deptford, London, visited the Corinthian Otters at Burnham on Crouch, Essex. The sun shone and a light wind blew as Otters and AHOY Shipmates sailed down the river in AHOY's RS Visions, and a mixture of Cadets and Toppers.

The Alster Piraten visit the Otters

Any visit between the Alster Piraten, (the Pirates) and the Corinthian Otters was bound to be something special; something more than a meeting of two sets of youngsters, enjoying fun on and off the water with some serious racing thrown in.

Otters versus the Piraten
12th &13th May 2007
Over the weekend of the 12th and 13th May, the 'Norddeutscher Regatta Verein' sent a Dragon Team to race against the RCYC Dragons. And with them came a team from the Alster Piraten YC to race against the Corinthian Otters. How did this all happen? It's the result of a real co-incidence......

Oppie Start of Season at the Pond
Sunday 22nd April 2007
Sun, water, light winds enthusiastic children and a host of experienced parents made this a magnificent start to the season. We had two fleets start at the pond on Sunday 22nd April, one junior fleet of complete beginners with trainer Phil Aspinall and fleet manager Becky Bacon and a senior fleet with varying degrees of sailing ability being trained by Duncan Kay and managed by Marion Aspinall.

The Otter Easter Egg Open Regatta
31st March -1st April
The Otter Easter Egg Regatta took place over the weekend of 31st March, 1st April. For many sailors this was the first sail of the season, it was a real baptism of fire.

Otter Quiz Night
Saturday 3rd February 2007
Mick Hill, ably assisted by his hard working scorers Hilly and Richard, ran a most enjoyable Quiz night. The graphics and other technological features were amazing! Maureen and I joined a small but select group, Andrew and Lindsey Barr and Steve Jones to form ‘Dad’s Army’. We found ourselves sitting next to a table of very noisy Mexicans named ‘118/118’.

Musto Skiff Event
Saturday 9th December 2006
It was way back in the summer that the idea of an exhibition of Musto Skiffs was first suggested. Gradually the idea took shape; a good fleet of boats, sailed by the experts, the possibility of backing the winner of each race, the proceeds to go to charity.
